The rest of the trip to Association Island was without incident.  Of course, Stan said to June, "you had the easier driving part of the trip."  This wasn't true, but June just nodded knowing it wasn't worth the disagreement.

When they were assigned their space, it was right on the water's edge looking out onto Lake Ontario.  "Wow, what a beautiful spot," they both said in unison.

Stan went about "hooking up" all the necessities: TV antenna, lawn chairs, grill, beer cooler (but it was alittle heavy, so June had to help).   June attached the sewer hose, electricity, water hose and awning, making sure everything worked correctly.

After all the tasks were complete, June said to Stan, "let's explore the rest of the island." Association Island was used in the 1930's to the 50's as a "think tank" by General Electric executives.  Stan and June saw some of the original bungalows that still are standing.  They were just about big enough for one person to turn around in.

The old Town Hall still stands and the Arvees found out that future plans for this structure are in the works.  There is a large building that was used for the conference center and has just reopened after 30 years (with alot of  updating).
The Black Catte had been the orginal dining hall and now is home of the restaurant, live music and various activities for young and old.

June was amazed at all the ammenities: boat lauch, swiming pool, tennis and basketball courts, shuffleboard, fishing, biking.  "Look June, they have horseshoes!"  Stan was so excited as horseshoe pitching was one of his favorite activities.

It was only about a mile  around the island but June and Stan were thirsty and hungry.  They whipped up a "camper's delight" - hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans and smores on the campfire for dessert.

The Arvees were sitting around their campfire enjoying the spectacular sunset and noticed their two neighboring camper couples were out as well.  One of the guys, named Guy invited both couples, June & Stan and Harry & Sally over to join himself and his wife, Joanne.

They brought out snacks and drinks.  They all talked about where they were from, past and present jobs, their families, their pets, a little politics and of course...camping.

The campfire was going out and they all agreed to meet the next day for lunch "in town."

When Stan and June finally made it to bed they were exausted but pleasantly so.  They were both so excited recapping the conversations they had with their new friends.  Stan told June, "Harry told me about a "garbage can turkey.  He said you've never tasted a better turkey.  I'll pick up all the supplies we need tomorrow to make the turkey."
